When it was St Patricks day, all Y/A folk were celebrating and asking what other's were going to do for the day. As it's St Georges Day on Monday 23rd April, what is everyone doing for this. and why can't it be made a national holiday, come on, any-one going to get a petition up and running for a day off work.?

The cross of St.George to many ethnic minorities living in the UK represents the BNP or NF. The government will never let it become a national holiday because they are afraid it may stir up racial hatred. We should blame it on the small minded political parties who use the flag as a banner to represent their old fashioned views.

I'm Irish but live in Birmingham where we have a massive parade on St.Patricks and loved being patriotic and celebrating the day. Its a shame we can't all do the same for St.Georges day.

There's already several petitions to make St George's Day a public holiday. Check out the site below.

Being Scottish with one million Irish verify, I even tend to no longer rejoice St Georges Day, nonetheless I even have extremely no longer something by contrast joyful social gathering, my brother is English, so i might desire to have a pint with him on right this moment ..

No one's stopping you! I've never understood why the English don't grasp St George's day. Maybe it's because there are so many regions who have their own thing, I don't know for sure, maybe it's because your flag is associated loosely with soccer hooligans, idiots abroad, northern irish loyalists, glasgow rangers fans who pretend to be english, BNP, NF, UVF, skinheads, ultra right fascists, bigots racists who knows.

Always thought that too. I think it's because we lack the identity of the Welsh, Scots and Irish. No national dress etc?

You can sign petitions on:

www.stgeorgesday.com and www.stgeorgesholiday.com.

Everyone at work is being encouraged to dress in red, white (and blue) and donate a pound to go to a special fund. Should be fun.

I will celebrate quietly. It is not politically correct to be proud of one's heritage these days, but I am.
