I believe "When in Rome...". Most Americans practice some version of Christianity. Of course there are large Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and other religious groups that make-up the true fabric and character of this place. Many friends of mine are Muslim. When Ramadan arrives, I wish them 'Happy Ramadan'. For my Jewish friends, it's 'Happy Hanukkah' and so forth. What bothers me about this political correctness we seem to be stuck on is that it does not take into account how intelligent the average person is. The only people I know of that are offended by Merry Christmas are big idiots. If someone said Happy Hanukkah or Happy Ramadan or any other seasonal greeting I wouldn't take offense. Heck, I would be happy that people of whatever faith or culture thought enough of me to grace me with a sweet greeting! In America December 25th is a major holiday called Christmas! Other holidays overlap this time of year but people are smart enough to know what's going on. We need to lighten up and just enjoy the 'Holidays' by any name. Thanks for the question.

It doesn't offend me either way even though I tend to not celebrate religious holidays. I know most people do celebrate some kind of holiday during that season, so I just go with the flow.
But I think it's being sensitive to say "Happy Holidays" because you're being inclusive and not presuming that everyone in the world celebrates the same religious holiday that you do. It's not "wrong" to say Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah. But if you want to try not to alienate anyone, it might be better to use "Happy Holidays". And for the record, "Happy Holidays" has NOTHING to do with trying to take Christ out of the season, as is purported by many people (including my parents). ;)

It's 100% correct to say Merry Christmas! I get peeved when I hear someone tell me Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings (unless they are not Christians). 85% of the people in this country are Christians, so what's the deal with everyone trying to say it's not politically correct to say Christmas??? Jesus is the reason for the season! :)

The day is called Christmas so why should it be wrong to wish someone Merry Christmas. Yes, it was started to honor and commemorate the birth of Christ but it is our Constitutional freedom to practice religion and share our faith. Just do so with a smile instead of a grunt.

No, it is not wrong.
If you think the person will be uncomfortable well that should not stop you.
If you are going to insult someone, then you may want to refrain from saying it because you are not treating them with love. Your insult, even though it may be by unwittingly, may also put up a barrier for that person so they are less likely to accept Jesus.
But, I would and do continue to say it every year. Merry Belated Christmas

there is easily no longer something in any respect incorrect with "Merry Christmas". only those who imagine there is something incorrect with it have the issue and they could take it elsewhere as i do not pay interest to the BA - HUMBUG stuff. in the journey that your a Christian it recommend that you're celebrating the start of your savior. in case you do not think in God or Jesus then it only a visit the position many households party provide supplies and characteristic a strong meal and fellowship with one yet another. acquaintances and family individuals and the holiday spirit, giving and being strong to at least one yet another, in the journey that they don't love it then they could merely bypass away and leave us on my own to our satisfied cases. Oh, by how "Merry Christmas"!!!!

I think that it's retarded that employees aren't allowed to say "Merry Christmas", but you are allowed to talk about personal things openly and on T.V.
The thing everyone's been saying is merry christmahanakwanza.
Weird, huh?

Welll...if you know the person is Christian...go ahead and say it. If they're Jewish... Happy Holidays is the way to go.
It may not offend me, but in the business world (I'm in NYC) most people just say Happy Holidays to play it safe.
It's more important to think about the other person, than to get hung up on what you want to say...isn't it?

It's not wrong. If it was wrong, it would be a complete violation of the 1st amendment.
Just don't say it directly to someone you KNOW of that believes in a different religion...

CHRISTMAS IS THE TIME THAT WE CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF CHRIST IT IS A JOYFUL TIME OF THE YEAR IS THE SCRIPTURES BEING FULFILLED WITH THE BIRTH OF CHRIST MAN IS TURNING IT INTO A COMMERICALIZED THING AND NOT TRULY REMEMBERING THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRIST BIRTH AND CELEBRATION BUT ONE DAY WE WILL ALL STAND IN JUDGEMENT AND THOSE WHO HAVE AND ARE SHUNING HIM NOW WILL BE JUDGED ON THAT DAY.
