Question:
Is it too Early for shops to be selling Christmas decorations in September?

I think Christmas decorations should not be on sale till just a few weeks before Christmas! When sales are on from Sept, the build up of the excitement of Christmas is gone by the time the real day comes. In the years gone by when the Christmas decors starts appearing in the shops a month before Christmas it is so exciting & special. Does anybody feel that way?

I personally am fed up with the whole thing as it seems to go on for months. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for parents who have to explain to thier kids that santa will not be coming for ages yet!!

Agreed.

It's so stupid, theres a shop near where I live and they have a few Christmas themed items on sale from sort of June/July time, which is ridiculous. Then in September they started getting more in and then by October the whole store is Christmas stuff filled, fake snow, christmas trees.

Christmas is such a special time and people are just ruining it like you said by making everyone excited way before.

December is the month for Christmas things, so we should keep it that way. The song, I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, I think people are taking it to heart a bit too much.

=(

It's here (Ireland) As well and i too think it's mad. We're getting a lot of things from our local large DIY store (Doing up house to move in) And just as i went looking for another pot of oil base paint (Where it was 2 days ago) I did a double turn because instead of paint all i could see were giant Santas, reindeers, snowmen and you name it! I know people get all excited about Christmas and want to turn their gardens into grottos or what not but surely! November should be soon enough! Tesco's the same BTW. Our Tesco got Christmas toys and stockings already? In my opinion it's all based on sell, sell, sell and takes away the true spirit of Christmas. I'd give big companies thumbs down for it if i could LOL

September is too early for Christmas decorations, or Christmas music, or Christmas present buying. So is October. So is November.

It takes from the magic and fun of it all if we're fed up with it by December! There should be some kind of strange government law forbidding sale of Christmas-related products outside of December. I just try and hide myself from it all until a week before Christmas. Keeps it special!

September, in my opinion, is too early. However, your timing is too late to enjoy it. I always decorated for Christmas the very day after Halloween. Plenty of time to get shopping done for the season, and to enjoy your decorations without throwing them on, then hurriedly removing them again. First of November to New Year's Day is just right.

I totally agree with you. It's just plain wrong.

And the other thing I hate is how we never hear proper christmas carols in December these days. In the shops it's all Jingle Bell Rock and stuff, which is OK up to a point, but not the same as proper carols!

I put my decorations up the week of Thanksgiving so I can enjoy them longer. I think it's crazy to put them up and then 2 weeks later take them down. I wouldn't mind the selling starting in October, but November is too late. I think a worse case is when you see the decorations up in February still. That is waaayyyyyy worse!

I agree. I get really disgusted when I see Christmas decorations and holiday displays before Halloween. :-(

At the very least, retailers should wait until after Thanksgiving to start pushing Christmas stuff. I refuse to shop for holiday gifts until the beginning of December.

I saw my first ones in a small shop a couple weeks ago. I simply walked past, realising that to buy anything at this early date would simply encourage the merchants.

1 November is certainly early enough even for those that have to buy a little along the way, it would seem.

I so agree with you! I actually saw christmas cards for sale 2 weeks ago! its shocking! we have to get the kids back to school first and then there's halloween and guy Fawkes (and thanks giving over in the states) to get through first! Surely Christmas should be limited to mid november at the earliest to January 6th? this would keep it special and not something drawn out for 1/4 of the year?!!!!

I agree that it is too early to see Holiday decor in the shops now. I think that retailers should wait until Halloween is over to bring out the Christmas items. It just seems to drag on forever when you see tinsel in August!

Yes, decorations should only be sold in november and december, having them in the shops this early is ridiculous and completely dilutes the atmosphere.

i find it incredibly aggrevating when they skip all the other holidays.. they did it with the 4th of july.. they do it with halloween.. they had halloween stuff out at the beginning of the month.. halloween is the last day of october.. wtf. and yeah they are already putting the christmas decorations out.. its dumb. they should wait until halloween is over and start witht he thanksgiving stuff and them maybe wait a few weeks after that and put out the christmas stuff.. it just shows how bad the economy is.. people are trying so hard to sell stuff to the american public..

best thing is to just ignore it..

oh really i guess im the odd ball but who cares..maybe some ppl like to be really prepared. why do you get worked up over something silly like decorations. you dont have to look at them or buy them if you dont want to. people complain too much about the little things...
