i was going to say edinburgh but since your from the uk you are probably looking to go foreign.

if however you plan to stay in the uk then go to edinburgh. i went there last week by myself to do some sightseeing and xmas shopping and i have to say there is plenty to keep you busy! the hogmany festival for New Years looks amazing. its very chilly so you would need to wrap up but its very christmassy!
