Basically, Winter Solstice is the shortest 'daylight' day of the year, and Summer Solstice is the longest 'daylight' day of the year.

Various religions and cultures celebrate these days in a number of ways.

We BBQ! The summer one is held outside, with various picnic games, and it is a block party. During the winter, the party is held indoors at the community center, and is a BBQ potluck, with a pie auction.

A solstice is kind of like a season, Only there's two not four. There are two solstices and two equanox. The equanox happen during the spring and the fall when the relationship between day and night are EQUAL. The solstice happens in the summer and winter, when either the day or night is longer than the other. They just said, happy season!

Solstices refer to certain times of the year when the sun is at a certain position in relation to the earth. Some religions celebrate holidays on the solstices. There are theories, for example, that say the reason Christmas is celebrated at the time of year it is is because the whole celebration (other than the religious aspect) arose from Pagan solstice celebrations.

I think that it relates to Christmas as there is a winter solstice around Christmas Eve. And I think that it has to do with some witchcraft or stuff because that night was very important in ancient pagan cultures (Mitras -the light- defeating the bull -the darkness).

Haha, it's the wiccan winter holiday. Unfortunately they were probably making fun of the "Happy Holidays" trend.
