Question:
Does anyone else celebrate Christmas - the birth of Jesus Christ?

...by baking a birthday cake for baby Jesus? My family started this years ago and it is a wonderful tradition in keeping with the Christian faith. Although we live in a politically correct world; there is supposed to be separate church/state. So the next time someone says "Happy Holidays" wish them a "Merry Christmas" if you are catholic and solidify YOUR own faith! Don't dismiss other greetings either...just recognize your own!

"christmas", as in December 25, has absolutely nothing to do with the birth of the Christ.

By all research he was born during the month of Tishri (Sept/oct)

December 25 was chosen by Julius I in AD360 as a date for Christmas to appease the christians, and still celebrate the pagan holiday of Winter Solstice (December 25 is the first day after Winter solstice that days become noticeably longer on the way to Summer Solstice)

I certainly am celebrating the birth of Jesus who I am convinced made a great difference to the world. What person's life birthday would still be of importance 2000 years on - he must have been amazing. Your second question - Is this the whole point of Christmas? - It is and it isn't. Christmas has developed into a happy family time and long may this continue where families get together and give to each other but I believe this has derived from our love of Christianity

I don't bake a cake for Jesus but I agree with you that the birth of Jesus Christ is REALLY IS the TRUE meaning of Christmas! I think your idea of wishing a "Merry Christmas" to others is an excellent one. So many people believe that Christmas is about gifts, giving, and Santa Claus, but just look at the name "CHRISTmas!!!"

It's all about the birth JESUS CHRIST!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The cake for baby Jesus is an excellent idea. I find it very important to teach my daughter that Christmas is not about Santa, but about Jesus. Our culture has an unfortunate tendency to worship their career, their paycheck, and the things they want to buy, rather than the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I think remembering the real reason for Christmas and avoiding advertising really helps to put our hearts and souls in the right place.

That's a cool idea - esp cuz I love cake. But my family the big tradition is Christmas cookies, not cake. But, as practicing Catholics, we definintely celebrate the birth of Christ. So, Merry Christmas.

I'm not christian but recognize that Jesus Christ came to save us and I don't think it should be recognised on only one day. But I do the whole gift giving thing.
